The Coven takes worldwide sales on French cannibal drama Sunnyside as Yoann Luis begins feature debut shoot

International sales outfit The Coven has come on board French-language horror Sunnyside, the first feature from director Yoann Luis. The project imagines a dystopian future in which human beings are raised as a food source and is currently in principal photography in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Creative team and cast

Sunnyside expands on themes Luis explored in his short film 100% Organic, a work that swapped the roles of animals and humans. The feature stars Lucille Guillaume and Rod Paradot. Paradot’s credits noted in coverage include a César for Most Promising Male Actor for Standing Tall and a Molière award for Best New Actor for his stage work in Florian Zeller’s The Son.

French genre filmmaker Xavier Gens is attached as an associate producer on the film. Coverage highlights Gens’ career credits, including work on the film Hitman (2007) and the French horror title Frontier(s), as well as recent projects mentioned in connection with him.

Production and sales

Sunnyside is being produced by Yoann Luis and Axel Zeiliger of Block 8 Production alongside Florent Steiner and Guillaume Natas for EV.L Prod. Executive producers include Priscilla Ross Smith and Kendall Anlian of The Coven. The Coven will handle worldwide sales.

Paris-based ESC Films is reported to be the theatrical distributor in France. The outlet has previously released a number of contemporary genre titles in France.

Coverage also notes The Coven’s recent profile on the international genre market, mentioning the company’s involvement on a high-profile horror release in a sales and executive producer capacity.

Principal photography for Sunnyside is under way in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes; further distribution details and release plans beyond France have not been reported in the supplied coverage.
