Did you travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. in August of 1993 for the Zombie Jamboree? Doctor Mike did, and this is what he brought home…

This is the “Night of the Living Dead” Scrapbook, an exhaustive effort that chronicles the milestone movie from an inside view, personally complied by those who made the film.

Premiering October 1, 1968, George Romero’s original ghoulfest changed horror films forever, and created the modern zombie mythos which thrives today: human dead that feed on the living. Heavily criticized (and sometimes banned) upon its initial release, Night of the Living Dead now rests permanently within the Library of Congress for being “culturally and historically significant.”

25 years after its premiere, Living Dead fans gathered from around the globe to attend Zombie Jamboree in Pittsburgh (the city where Romero’s film was made) to celebrate the movie’s silver anniversary. This Scrapbook was purchased at that event, and is simply packed with ultra-rare zombie stuff – so much that it’d take weeks to gobble it all up.

Spearheaded by Marilyn Eastman (Helen in the film, the mom who gets troweled to death by her dead daughter), the NOTLD Scrapbook was a personal project – a customized loose-leaf binder preserving all of her collected materials on the film in one volume. (A second volume was planned, but never realized). Eastman got others involved (including co-screenplay writer John Russo, and co-stars Karl Hardman, Bill Hinzman, Kyra Schon), culling all their personal materials – clippings, letters, photos, press clippings, legal documents, etc. – for reproduction in the Scrapbook. Only 24 were made, assembled personally by Eastman, all of which sold at the Jamboree.

This one is #27. Why? Because her Scrapbook was so popular, Eastman agreed to create a few more for those who missed out. Four others pre-paid at the show, and waited another month for theirs to arrive in the mail. However, it was worth the wait, because Eastman collected many additional materials to include in the last four volumes. There is a personally written note by Eastman to this effect included with the Scrapbook.

The cover of the Scrapbook is personally autographed by Eastman, Russo, and Hardman, and the inside cover is numbered 27 in gold ink. Included within are 16 original 8″x 10″ B&W movie stills from Night of the Living Dead. Also included are two color 8″ x 10″ photos: one vintage of the cast and crew from ’68, and one showing those veterans attending the Zombie Jamboree in Pittsburgh, August ’93.

There’s also over 80 pages of photocopied materials, all annotated in pen by those who made the film. Dozens of newspaper clippings are gathered, dating from pre-production, through filming, the movie’s world premiere, to the outrage and controversy it caused around the country. There’s also key pages from the original script (with handwritten notes and alterations), many contact sheets with notes on the bloody effects, cast obituaries, dozens of film reviews, advertising slicks, and so much more – a treasure trove of all-but-lost info and imagery, with personal musings along the way.

And beyond the hundreds of materials contained within, this Scrapbook also includes a few fabulous extras, all in perfect condition: an adult Gold Pass ticket to Zombie Jamboree, a laminated Gold Pass badge, and a Zombie Jamboree Bonus Buck from the event. It’s the ultimate tribute to the cult film that just won’t die, and an ultra-rare homage.
