Screamify has given the go-ahead to Crack, an original medical-horror feature that centers on the darker side of ASMR and chiropractic “cracking” content. The streamer tapped Calvin Morie McCarthy to produce and direct the project, which the company identifies as its first entry into ASMR-focused horror and part of a new medical-horror development slate.

Premise

  • The story follows Anna West (Peyton Grace Bell), a young woman recently out of a halfway house, who becomes entangled with Dr. Ryan Love (Alexander Molina), a Seattle chiropractor who hosts a popular spine-cracking ASMR channel.
  • When Rita, the chiropractor’s office manager played by Tuesday Knight, disappears, Anna inserts herself into the clinic and the channel’s operations. The film builds toward a live-streamed adjustment with first-time patients that catastrophically goes wrong.

Cast, Crew and Production

Calvin Morie McCarthy will direct and produce through 7th Street Productions. The principal cast includes Peyton Grace Bell, Alexander Molina and Tuesday Knight. Filming is planned for this fall in Portland, Oregon, and the feature is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Screamify later in the year.

Context

Screamify described Crack as a project that mines wellness culture and parasocial intimacy for horror. The platform notes chiropractic cracking videos are a prominent ASMR subgenre with extensive social-media viewership; the announcement referenced academic research indicating ASMR content can lower viewers’ heart rates and reduce anxiety. Screamify also frames the title as the debut of a medical-horror slate for the service.

Tuesday Knight’s casting brings a legacy connection to the genre given her role in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. Alexander Molina and Peyton Grace Bell are listed among the principal players, with Molina also noted for previous producing and acting credits and Bell in a first starring feature role.
